Two things can happen when you invite friends over for a crafty day, 1.) You gossip and chit chat and realize that at the end of the day you've either severely messed up your WIP or have barely touched it all, or 2.) You get some gossip and chit chat in between furrow-browed concentration.

Today was a case of #2. (Actually, now that I think about it, #1 only happens when I invite or get invited to a crafty day OUT, like at a coffee shop or something. Every time I've had friends over, it's always been pretty darn productive.) Steph and two other friends came over today for some all day crafting. Not only did I sketch out a quilt, I cut and pieced, too. Boy am I pooped! Sad news is, I ran short of fabric and need more to make two more squares and to finish up the back. I guess this means another trip to the fabric store. That would make it three times in one month.

I've been a little smitten with quilting lately. I blame it all on flickr. I mean I could point the finger at someone, but that wouldn't be completely nice, would it (It's her. Click over. Trust me, you won't be sorry.)? I mean, she inspired this.

Hi, I'm not a Steelers fan. This was purely coincidence.
Cathedral windows, tutorial here. It's rather addicting. It's kind of a cross between origami and sewing. Anyways, this is just a swatch that I'll eventually just turn in to a pillowcase. But you can bet I've already got an idea for the real thing.
That's all for now. Apologies for lagging on the FO fashion show. Steph was supposed to help me take photos today and we got all caught up in crafting. Note to self, photo shoots precede craft time.

Wowie! I was in love with your fabric choice in the first images, then saw the cathedral window pillowcase--that is fantastic! Thanks for sharing the tutorial.

How pretty! Her work is GORGEOUS! I just need to sew up the 12 squares of fabric I have and call it a quilt lol. THEN I'll attempt something else lol.

You are killing me YaiAnn!!! How could you expose me to cauchy09. I just got back from the internaltional quilt festival and am itching to start a quilt and now between you and her I nearly have to sedate myself to keep from starting :O)
But I will resist and live vicariously through you and you wonderful creations. That cathedral windows quilt will definitely be on the list.

Wow- cool quilting! It's been a while since I've done any, but you people may just motivate me! I especially like the colors/patterns in the top quilt - fun!

lovely quilt you're making there. and i saw the HIP cathedral window tutorial earlier today. funny how it's been on my mind of late; one of my friend's mothers always had one going on and i'm calling her this week to set up a time to go over and let her show me how to do it in person, though HIP's tutorial is great. love the fruits in your CW quilt, especially the cherries!

That Chawne. Sigh. She's such a bad influence on you otherwise sensible knitters.

Your cathedral window is looking gorgeous - I swear, every day I find someone who is putting me to shame with their creations! Thanks so much for sharing my link!
Love the top quilt as well - that log cabin-y design seems beautiful - I've never tried log cabin before, maybe we can call it an inspiration exchange, and I'll attempt it after seeing how beautiful yours is!
Cheers,

Love your fabric choice! And the sketch is very inspiring. How serendipitous is it that you have to go back to the fabric store?...
Oh, and thanks for that awesome flickr link!

Those are so pretty! I love Cathedral Windows. Somewhere, in my mess of a sewing room, I've started this quilt too.

I'm originally from Pittsburgh, and I can't believe you even know what the Steelers emblem is! Good for you. Betcha don't have a terrible towel though (well, you're excused - you're not a fan - and it's not necessarily even a justifiable possession, but I digress).
I made a Cathedral windows pillow many years ago and sold it, which is one of my regrets in life. I'd love to have that pillow back. Your example posted here is inspiring me to make another! If I make bigger panes, it will go faster than the first one did. They're enchanting. (I did actually buy another hand-made CW pillow at a local crafts fair, so I guess I'm even, but that still won't stop me from making another.)
Thanks for posting about quilting. I've been diving into that hobby as well as of late, and I love it! The more I learn, the better my skills, and the more I sew, the more I make and WOW! Such things of beauty are they - quilted items! Thanks again.

I can't seem to print the Cathedral Windows tutorial, so I googled it to find other pages on the subject at hand. I found this and thought you might find it interesting too: http://ajpadilla.com/tutorials/cathedral-windows
